Running a large international sporting event takes thousands of volunteers, each assigned by sport and by area, often working in shifts. Tracking that many people's applications, assignments and the coordination between them by hand, out of spreadsheets, is close to impossible.
The system took in and recorded the applications of around 8,000 people who applied to volunteer at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, then assigned the selected volunteers by their sport and preferred area. It organised the tasks and shifts so that coordinators working at different levels could keep their work aligned.
By the time the championships took place, it was coordinating around 3,500 volunteers.
